Part C - Sound Signals

Correct use of sound and light signals is a vital part of collision avoidance at sea. Under the COLREGS Part C, vessels are required to make specific signals in restricted visibility, when maneuvering, and in situations where their intentions must be made clear to other vessels.

On this page, you’ll find a downloadable PDF reference sheet of COLREGs sound signals, designed as a quick guide for study and practice. Cadets and serving seafarers alike should use it to reinforce learning, prepare for examinations, and build confidence in applying the rules at sea.
